In the 10/1/24 national Presidential Debate between JD Vance and Gov Tim Walz, the clear winner was declared to be the national mainstream media, represented here by Margaret Brennan and Nora O’Donnell of CBS News.
Such has been the case since Barack Obama ascended the American throne in 2009, the ruling Democratic Party having lost only one election since, to Donald Trump in 2017. Trump was then denied a follow-up in 2020, even though it appeared he won handily. Now it remains to be seen if he will be denied in like manner this next election, in 2024.
What has to change is not in the powers of persuasion over Republican voters, but in the denial of the Democrat Party, by being able to wield power through the national media. Modern conservatism has only one channel (to date), the Fox News Channel, and it reaches the vast majority of the “patriot-sector” of voters. But the Modern Left has plenty of avenues to pluck their counting.
In truth, our “moral base” still outnumbers the “anti-common person” voting sector, (aka, the Left) but with the rise of a new, and almost totally manipulable generation, (GenAlpha, still in its teen-hood), generally absent moral training (Sunday Schools, churches, and cause-and-effect teaching about America’s moral and religious foundations via public education), I think we can see the potential for a dark horizon on that moral majority looming.
The modern Left has worked out a pretty effective path forward. They were prepared for this coming GenAlpha, and while I’ve watched certain churches in Georgia begin their own counter-punches, K-12, and college preparatory, I can’t speak for the other state locations.
In the Vance-Walz debate, it was clearly advertised that the Democrats no longer feel threatened by what will, in their view, level out as an insignificant minority in every community. Governor Walz, for instance, is a bombastic leftist, and is a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, who has no problem with gay marriage, for instance. Remember, the key word for leftists has, for years, been “appearances”, as in “keeping up…” and the modern left has no problem in hiding beneath of veneer of religion.
The long and short of it is this; Donald Trump is virtually the only Republican who has removed “cash profit” from his extended offer of a handshake. Since he appeared on the escalator in 2015, announcing his candidacy, he has paid for virtually everything out of pocket.
The entire objective of the Marxist Democrats since that fateful trip down the escalator has been to advertise that he cannot be bought, in the process causing the American Left to spend millions (so far) to try and prove otherwise. Bottom line, Trump could not, cannot be bought.
Still, the purpose of the mainstream media during the debate was to establish that the driving impetus of the Republican right should be to grow their personal wealth as it had been with most Democrats. Expanding their wealth has been a target for at least a century, with Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi beacons of the practice.
But what the Vance-Walz debate was designed to establish is that the political parties should control public opinion and the outcome of the election. So it is not a candidate’s star power with voters that controls the outcome of elections. But since 2009 and 2013, with Barack Obama, the Democrat Party controlled the popular vote…with star-power, name recognition. Barack Obama was the safest name in town.
They did not want Donald Trump to be able to match that.
To continue their line, Democrats needed to continue the Obama-line, sort of like the royal houses of England, which had various interruptions, (e.g, Cromwell, see https://www.vassarbushmills.com/2022/05/09/removing-the-cromwell-from-the-cromwell-interregnum/). Donald Trump threatens that continuity.
Even worse for the Left, Donald Trump has caused a resurgence of genuine patriotism among the common folk, the working classes, and for decades, reliable Democrat voters. Many of those, it has shown, have come from the working classes Democrats always took for granted, especially those who still went to church on Sunday. Suddenly 30-and-40-somethings can close their eyes and envision their forefathers gathered around a big fireplace, scheming to break away from the king Obama and their media had hoped they’d use to keep control of America.
Not gonna happen. The People will be free.
