Acquired in the Balkans, an original, from a military medical warehouse, that had been locked down after the Germans left in ’44 and the Red Army came in. It’s amazing the things they were not allowed to use, especially medical stuff, while the people went without for several years.
The bag is very nice, a huge piece, 29″ x 28″, heavy canvas reinforced by woven burlap, with end flaps, typically thrown into the back of a truck or jeep, reads “MV” (stands for medical something, and printed “Sanitary Sluzhba” or “department”.
I’ve also thrown in some drugs and soaps, even toothpicks, all from around 1940.
These additional items are:
1) Acykal, which Google says is an “antigonorrhoicum” or used to prevent gonorrhea, but I’m not sure as it looks a lot like dental cement.
2) Sealed box of Ferrum Kakodylicum, in glass ampules, not a prohibited drug I’m told, and from Dec 1940 soon after the Germans came in.
Bulgaria was a principal pharma sub-contractor for the Third Reich
3) Pharma Dress Gauze bandages, 6 Rolls, these were used in their field hospitals
4) MENTA Powder Toothpaste–I’m old enough to remember powder toothpaste in America, we had Colgate…still sealed, c1940
5)-6)-Two types of powdered soap for washing clothes- I can’t translate
7) A sealed package of “PELIKAN” wooden toothpicks, 500 pieces, very fine, I’ve tried them
