One word: Dzerzhinsky

When Evil is about, it really isn’t hard to choose sides. You’re either for it or against it. But once you’ve chosen sides, you then have to choose again. Do I only lend moral support, lip-service, or do I join the fight? For you see, most people, for a variety of reasons, some noble and some not-so-noble, hunker down, and wait, hoping they’ll live to see an end to it all, but that someone else will do the heavy lifting in making all that happen.

History tells us most won’t live that long, for when Evil comes, it comes to stay, and stays for at least awhile. And it does not voluntarily leave.

Therefore, certain laws apply, especially heavier lifting.

Much is made these days about the passive way of resistance should Evil gets in total charge, namely arming yourselves with knowledge, truth and love, then passing it on to your neighbor, so as to link up, a daisy-chain, so to speak, so that arm-in-arm you become an impenetrable and immovable object.

This is mighty enticing to many, for it seems to suit our unforefatherlike sedentary disposition. But to some extent it’s this disposition that’s gotten us into this mess in the first place. For over forty years, at least, and I include myself in this equation, we have been way too righteously indignant while sitting back, expecting our elected leaders, Process, the law, etc, to take care of the parade of infractions we’ve watched go unimpeded and unpunished within our institutions. Then when nothing really happens to stem the criminal tide, the logical end to which we knew as early as the 1970s, we bring the full force of our anger to bear—–with a strongly worded letter to the The Times.

If words could kill, conservatives would be most lethal army ever assembled. Only, against Evil, words don’t even sting.

Strategically, Evil, as I’ll lay out with a little more detail at a later date, would much prefer this scenario to play out this way, for the scales of our poor judgment to fall from our eyes later rather than sooner, for Evil is well prepared for us once we rise up as a rearguard action, in full blown retreat, instead of being an army on offense. Evil likes its chances quite well, thank you, 2nd Amendment or no, once it’s riding high in the saddle, while we’re running through the woods, pausing only long enough to blow down a few trees to slow down its advance.

So, it’s in this context we’re reminded about the success Gandhi had against the British Raj in India and Dr Martin Luther King, Jr against Jim Crow south in America. And it worked out well for both.

But why those campaigns worked was because both the Mahatma and Dr King properly assessed the nature of the evil they were up against.

You see, they were up against an evil thing, not evil people. Not Evil Incarnate. And they knew it.

The British boasted of being the most civilized people on earth, and for Gandhi that was their Achilles heel. He knew Britain’s limitations and stretched it. And southerners professed to be the most Christian of Americans, so Dr King also knew where their limitations lay as well. He always carried his Bible.

So how well would either have fared against a Felix Dzerzhinsky? I mentioned this to a former Central Committee member in Bulgaria once, mentioning how the people in India had once laid down in front of a train. He just laughed. “If one hundred peoples lay down in front of Soviet locomotives at Kievski Station, the locomotive would still pull out on schedule. And once Dzerzhinsky were shown the film, he would have said ‘Very effective, bring us one hundred more dissidents.’ ”

The Iron Felix

In deference to both Gandhi and King’s good sense, I’m certain both would have come up with a different plan altogether were Dzerzhinsky the face of the evil they were fighting.

In taking the measure of Obama and his kind, I doubt they are the line-’em-up-and shoot-’em Castro types, but a few would surely do that, if given license. But I do think they can easily convince themselves that “re-education camps” for the irresolute freedom-lover would be just what the doctor ordered, and once building and managing the camps were three-four bureaucratic levels removed from the policy makers at Homeland Security, and out of sight to the media, I doubt these would be places the neighborly-love resistance army could expect to sit around the camp fire and roast freedom-weenies. I can think of at least three dozen better ways to martyr myself than to sit on a hard bench at Camp Pol Pot and learn to recite from memory the “New Code of Civic Responsibility”.

After they pulled down all the Stalin statues, and removed all his photographs in the USSR , after Kruschchev denounced him in 1956, the statues and photos or Felix Dzershinsky that dotted every Soviet city and town were exceeded only Lenin’s.

Funny, too, all Iron Felix did was put dissidents

To some people that amounts to being “a Founder” in the transformational new world order.
