Yesterday people waited twice as long to buy a chicken sandwich than they did to vote for Barack Obama in 2008. If Lefties feel like Apollo Creed, take note, that was your “Rocky” moment.
The Chick-Fil-A mass demonstration proved several things. It proved, regardless of the meme the media wants to sell you, that 75% of Americans are solidly opposed to gay marriage, and it is an issue that will cause people to postpone all other forms of recreation, hop into their cars and drive around a tan stucco building for 45 minutes just to buy a sandwich. There are not enough dollars in the gay establishment’s coffers to offset this.
So I guess we can say President Obama chose poorly.
It also proved that at least 85% of American are solidly in favor of free speech, including Whoopi Goldberg, and a host of others of the Left who are either for or indifferent to gay marriage.
It also proved that the African-American community is deeply divided about this issue of gay marriage, and have become so public about it, through church and religious leaders, as to drive a wedge in that community, all on the basis of the same religious morality that has separated conservatives from liberals, right from left, Republican from Democrat, and Dr Van Helsing from Dracula, for a century or more.
And yesterday proved that nothing the national media can do can stop it. A sizeable portion of the African-American leans heavily religious and anti-Dracula on the issue of morality, and this issue will be driven home weekly in pulpits around the country, where national pressers and appearances on the Beck show won’t matter. They have become so vocal maybe, just maybe, it will cause them to rethink other draculian Democrat issues that always seem to keep their feet close to the fire, then do the unthinkable and not vote for Obama in November.
In the words of Yogi Berra (sort of), If the people don’t want to come out to vote, not even Obama can stop them.
(I recommend you pay attention to total black turnout in November, as few blacks will ever show up to vote for a Republican…although this gay marriage issue may change that, as it did on the gay marriage referendum in North Carolina, where they showed up in droves.)
Again, it seems Obama chose unwisely, all for a few pieces of silver.
But what about Romney?
Although no one is calling Obama’s change of heart on gay marriage a “flip flop,” so as not to confuse the flip flops they want to lay at Romney’s feet, it is. Only Obama’s flip flop on gay marriage is increasingly being exposed as anything but an evolution of the heart. Rahm Emanuel’s shout-out against Chick-fil-A, and Obama’s quiet assent-by-silence, highlights a level of hubris even the most notorious of mercenary flip-floppers (e.g., Al Gore and Bill Clinton on abortion) couldn’t match.
What we’ve learned from Rahm Emanuel and other Democrat leaders is that not only can their new brood of leftists stand for a thing one day (both Obama, Emanuel, and his whole administration were against gay marriage only six months ago), then be against it the next, but that they feel completely at ease in moving quickly to demonize, ostracize, even criminalize (as Emanuel threatened) the act as if they’d never ever been on the other side.
If there is such a thing as criminal hubris, this is it. And Romney should capitalize on it, for Americans have already proved, by spending an hour at least of their time, plus $3 in gas, just to show that Obama and his pals have moved a bridge way, way too far.
What is being exposed here is a group of people who will have no trouble showing us photos of priests and nuns being frog marched off to jail for refusing to provide free contraception to the sexually incontinent. They will have no difficulty in sending IRS goons into homes to drag away citizens for refusing to buy health insurance. They already have proved they have no problem providing Mexican drug lords with guns to shoot down innocent Mexican civilians.
As Whoopi Goldberg pointed out, these repetitive missteps beyond the pale may even sink into the fabric of more conventional liberals about the First Amendment rights they hold holy.
There is a great opportunity for Mr Romney if he’ll only seize the moment, or the Devil by the tail. His choice.
